A leading structural steel fabrication and erection company in Western Canada is looking for an experienced Steel Erection Superintendent to lead our field operations. We build massive logistics hubs, agricultural processing facilities, and commercial warehouses across Alberta and Saskatchewan. If you know how to safely lift heavy iron, read complex connection drawings, and manage a crew of ironworkers, we want you on our team.
As the Superintendent, you are the boss on the ground. You will be responsible for planning the daily lifting sequences, coordinating with crane operators, and ensuring that every column is plumbed and every beam is bolted or welded to specification. You will be the primary liaison between the field crew and the project manager, ensuring that we are building safely, on schedule, and within budget.
~ Directing the daily activities of ironworkers, riggers, and welders, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow on the erection deck.
~ Planning and executing critical heavy lifts, selecting the right crane and rigging gear, and ensuring all lift plans are strictly followed.
~ Inspecting the steel as it arrives and verifying the quality of field welds and high-strength bolted connections against the QC requirements.
~ Reading and interpreting structural steel erection drawings (KM/KMD), identifying any field discrepancies, and coordinating RFIs with the detailers.
~ Enforcing a zero-incident safety culture, conducting daily toolbox talks, and ensuring 100% tie-off and fall protection compliance at all times.
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in steel erection, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role. You must have a deep understanding of structural steel behavior, rigging principles, and welding symbols. A strong background in construction safety (OSHA or equivalent) is mandatory. You need to be a decisive leader who can command respect on the deck and keep the project moving forward despite weather or logistical challenges.
We offer a robust salary of $110,000 CAD per year, plus a generous per diem and travel pay when working away from our Calgary home base. You will receive full union-style benefits, including health, dental, and a pension plan. A company truck and all specialized field equipment will be provided. This is a field-based role requiring your physical presence at our active construction sites across Western Canada.
