My career in structural engineering has been driven by a fascination with how buildings stand up and how we can make them both safe and efficient. I graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 2015 and immediately joined a mid-sized design firm in the Netherlands.
-> Early Design & Calculations: For the first two years, I worked under senior engineers, running hand calculations and learning the intricacies of the Eurocodes. By 2017, I was leading the structural design for mid-rise concrete residential buildings, modeling complex shear walls and transfer slabs in SCAD and AutoCAD.
-> BIM & Steel Detailing: Since 2020, I've been working as a Senior Structural Engineer for a boutique consultancy, focusing on both reinforced concrete and structural steel. I spend my days in Tekla Structures and Revit, running finite element analyses to optimize beam sizes and column reinforcements. I've successfully designed the steel frames for several large logistics centers, ensuring the connections are both constructible and cost-effective.
-> Coordination & Quality: I'm highly proficient in BIM workflows, coordinating my structural models with architectural and MEP disciplines to avoid clashes. I always ensure my designs meet the strict Dutch building codes and are optimized for material efficiency.
