🏢 **About Us:**
A wood processing and sawmill facility near Eugene, OR, is hiring a Laborer to act as the right-hand man to the Head Sawyer. Your efficiency dictates whether the mill runs smoothly or stalls. You will be the backbone of the log infeed and lumber outfeed process.
📋 **Core Responsibilities:**
• Log Handling: Assisting the crane operator in unloading trucks and sorting logs by diameter/length.
• Infeed: Rolling logs onto the band mill carriage and securing them in the dogs/clamps.
• Outfeed: Catching the cut lumber, sorting it by grade (Select, #1 Common, Slabs, Edgings).
• Cleanup: Constantly clearing sawdust and offcuts from the walkways and machine perimeters to prevent jams.
• Waste Management: Loading slabs and edgings into bins for the chipper or firewood sales.
• Site Safety: Keeping the yard free of slip/trip hazards.
🎓 **Requirements:**
• High stamina and excellent spatial awareness (mills are loud, dusty, and full of moving heavy material).
• Strict respect for safety protocols and machine guarding.
• Prior sawmill experience is a massive plus, but we will train a fast learner in a week.
