🏢 **About Us:**
A rapid-response machine shop in Portland, OR, is hiring a 5th-Class Manual Machinist for our repair department. When a factory's unique equipment breaks, they can't wait a month for an OEM part from overseas. Your job is to reverse-engineer and fabricate a replacement part from a worn sample or sketch in a single day.
📋 **Core Responsibilities:**
• Turning down worn shafts and machining new bearing seats.
• Cutting non-standard threads (metric, imperial, ACME) on salvage shafts.
• Fabricating bushings, studs, flanges, and adapters from worn samples.
• Working with diverse materials: carbon steel, stainless, bronze, and phenolic (canvas).
• Taking emergency measurements with micrometers and bore gauges on the spot, without a formal blueprint.
🎓 **Requirements:**
• Vocational training and verified experience on manual lathes (South Bend, Clausing).
• Calm under pressure: You don't panic when the word "today" is used, but you also don't release an out-of-tolerance part.
• Resourcefulness and strong mechanical intuition.
✨ **What We Offer:**
• Target Salary: $55,000 USD annually.
• Full-time, on-site role in Portland, OR.
• Heated shop, well-maintained manual equipment, piece-rate pay with a guaranteed base minimum.
