A large industrial facility's electrical distribution department in Houston, TX, is hiring a Substation Operator to staff and maintain our network of 12 transformer substations (10kV/480V). These range from pad-mounted units to multi-transformer switchgear rooms. You ensure uninterrupted power to all production floors.
📋 **Core Responsibilities:**
• Switching Operations: Executing switching orders per dispatcher instructions or during emergencies (strict LOTO compliance).
• Equipment Inspections: Visual checks of transformers, breakers, disconnects, and cable terminations.
• Load Monitoring: Tracking transformer loading, oil temperature, and cooling system performance.
• Log Keeping: Recording all switching events, parameters, and anomalies in the operations log.
• Grounding & Insulation: Verifying ground connections and insulator integrity.
• Anomaly Reporting: Flagging hot contacts (via thermal indicators), unusual transformer hum, or arcing.
🎓 **Requirements:**
• Electrical trade education and valid safety clearance (Journeyman, NFPA 70E, up to 1000V).
• Strict discipline and adherence to permit-to-work and LOTO procedures.
• Calm, rational thinking during emergency situations.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts (24-hour or 12-hour schedules, including nights and weekends).
