A leading automotive parts manufacturing conglomerate in Southern Ontario is expanding its environmental services team and looking for an experienced Industrial Waste Management Coordinator. We produce high-precision stamped and welded components, which means our facilities generate a complex stream of recyclable metals, industrial sludges, and hazardous chemical byproducts. We need a strategic organizer who can turn our waste management process from a regulatory burden into a streamlined, cost-effective operation.
Your core mandate will be to oversee the entire lifecycle of our industrial waste. You will design and enforce the facility's waste segregation protocols, ensuring that everything from spent solvents and heavy metal sludges to scrap aluminum and corrugated cardboard is correctly categorized, labeled, and staged in our central accumulation areas. You will act as the primary liaison with our certified third-party disposal contractors, negotiating hauling schedules, reviewing manifests, and ensuring all hazardous waste is transported in strict compliance with Transport Canada and provincial Ministry of the Environment regulations.
A significant part of your week will be spent on the floor, conducting weekly audits of our satellite accumulation points and training production supervisors on proper spill response and container management. You will also manage our primary recycling revenue streams, working directly with scrap metal brokers and cardboard baler operators to maximize the return on our secondary materials. Additionally, you will maintain our detailed waste tracking databases, generating the monthly and annual manifests required for regulatory audits.
The ideal candidate holds a degree or diploma in Environmental Sciences, Waste Management, or Chemical Technology, with at least 2 years of practical experience in a heavy manufacturing or automotive plant. You must possess a thorough understanding of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act and provincial hazardous waste regulations. Strong negotiation skills and the physical ability to conduct rigorous site inspections are essential.
We provide a salary of $68,000 CAD per year, plus a comprehensive pension plan and paid overtime. This is a full-time, on-site position at our Windsor manufacturing campus, complete with provided PPE, a dedicated environmental office, and a team that values proactive ecological management.
