A dynamic environmental engineering and consulting firm in Houston, Texas, is looking for a detail-oriented Environmental Permitting & Air Quality Specialist to join our regulatory compliance division. We serve a diverse portfolio of petrochemical plants, manufacturing facilities, and municipal utilities across the Gulf Coast, helping them navigate the labyrinth of state and federal environmental regulations. This role is perfect for a technical expert who thrives on complex calculations, regulatory writing, and client-facing problem solving.
Your primary responsibility will be the preparation and successful negotiation of air quality operating permits. You will conduct detailed emission inventories, run complex atmospheric dispersion modeling using AERMOD, and draft comprehensive Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) and Title V permit applications. You will act as the client's advocate during technical reviews with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), answering agency inquiries and negotiating feasible compliance timelines.
Beyond air quality, you will manage a robust portfolio of wastewater discharge permits and industrial waste characterization projects. This includes calculating allowable effluent limits, designing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), and conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments for commercial real estate transactions. You will also advise clients on sanitary buffer zone delineations and special water use allocations, ensuring their expansion plans do not conflict with local ecological protections.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related science, with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in environmental consulting or industrial compliance. Expertise in TCEQ regulations, EPA methodologies, and air dispersion modeling software is mandatory. You must possess exceptional technical writing skills and the ability to synthesize massive datasets into clear, defensible regulatory reports.
We offer a base salary of $92,000 USD annually, plus performance-based project bonuses, full medical coverage, and a 401(k) plan. This is a full-time, on-site role at our Houston office, featuring a collaborative environment, access to advanced modeling workstations, and regular site visits to major industrial complexes along the ship channel.
