Description

Managing hazardous waste is not just about regulatory compliance; it is about protecting the people on the floor and the soil beneath our feet. I am a Hazardous Waste Management Specialist with over three years of experience designing, implementing, and auditing RCRA-compliant waste streams for heavy industrial and maritime repair facilities. I thrive in the physical reality of environmental management—walking the yards, inspecting drums, and training crews.

Operational Experience & Waste Stream Management:
a) 2020–2023: Environmental Technician at a commercial shipyard in Puget Sound. Managed the accumulation and manifesting of hazardous wastes generated during vessel maintenance, including spent lead-acid batteries, mercury-containing switches, and toxic antifouling paint sludges. Coordinated the safe loading and transport of over 100 tons of Class 1 and Class 3 hazardous materials to licensed off-site treatment facilities.
b) 2023–Present: Waste Compliance Lead at an advanced electronics manufacturing plant. Built a satellite accumulation system from the ground up, ensuring every generation point on the floor had properly labeled, compatible, and secondary-contained drums.

Core Responsibilities & Safety Protocols:
a) Conducting weekly 90-day accumulation area inspections, checking for drum integrity, proper labeling, and incompatible chemical storage.
b) Drafting and updating Site-Specific Spill Contingency Plans, and leading bi-annual tabletop and physical spill response drills with the floor staff.
c) Maintaining the facility’s hazardous waste generator status through meticulous record-keeping, biennial reports, and EPA ID number management.
d) Negotiating with waste brokers to optimize pickup schedules and reduce transportation costs without compromising safety standards.

Although my manifesting and regulatory reporting workflows are managed remotely, the core of this role requires frequent, hands-on inspections of the shipyard accumulation areas and direct coordination with floor crews. I am physically capable of handling the demands of yard inspections in varying weather conditions and possess a calm, authoritative presence when correcting unsafe behaviors on the shop floor. I am seeking a full-time role in the Greater Seattle area, targeting $78,000 USD.
