A boutique energy consulting firm in Austin, Texas, is hiring an Energy Efficiency Consultant to help our industrial and commercial clients slash their utility bills. With energy costs soaring across the state, businesses are desperate for actionable strategies to reduce waste, and we need a technical expert to lead these audits.
What you will be doing:
— Performing comprehensive ASHRAE Level 1 and Level 2 energy audits on manufacturing plants, cold storage warehouses, and large commercial office complexes.
— Identifying specific areas of thermal and electrical energy loss, from poorly insulated building envelopes to inefficient, oversized HVAC systems.
— Designing tailored retrofit packages, such as LED lighting upgrades, variable frequency drive (VFD) installations, and advanced building automation system (BAS) controls.
— Calculating simple payback periods and net present value (NPV) for proposed measures, presenting clear, data-driven technical and economic justifications to facility managers.
Who we expect to see:
— A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or a related technical discipline.
— 1 to 2 years of experience in energy auditing, facilities management, or MEP engineering.
— The ability to analyze utility interval data, spot baseline consumption anomalies, and model energy savings using software like eQUEST or EnergyPlus.
— A curious mindset that enjoys crawling through mechanical rooms and interviewing maintenance staff to understand how a building actually operates.
The reality of the job:
This role is heavily field-oriented. You will be visiting active production floors, climbing onto flat roofs to inspect chillers, and navigating confined mechanical spaces. You must be comfortable working in environments with limited access, high noise levels, and varying temperatures.
Terms of employment:
We offer a salary of $75,000 USD per year. While the analytical reporting can be done remotely from our Austin office or your home, expect to be on the road 3 to 4 days a week visiting client sites. Full benefits, paid time off, and a company laptop are included.
