A large-scale farming and grain production operation in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is seeking an Agricultural Accounting Controller. As our land bank expands and we integrate more precision farming technologies, we need a financial expert who understands the unique rhythms of the agricultural sector. This is not a standard corporate accounting job; it requires a deep appreciation for crop cycles, equipment depreciation, and land lease structures.
You will manage the full accounting cycle for the farming operation, from tracking the costs of seed, fertilizer, and fuel, to calculating the unit economics of the harvested yield. You will be responsible for accounting for our massive fleet of tractors and combines, managing the complex web of land lease agreements with local farmers, and ensuring we maximize our tax advantages under the agricultural tax code. During the harvest season, you will work closely with the farm managers to reconcile the grain inventory at the elevators with our financial records.
We require a CPA designation or equivalent, with at least 3 years of experience in agricultural accounting, farm management, or rural banking. You must be highly proficient in farm-specific accounting software like Simply Accounting or advanced Excel, and possess the ability to translate agronomic data into financial insights. We offer a salary of $80,000 CAD, a rural lifestyle, and a comprehensive benefits package.
