A leading heavy machinery manufacturing plant in Montreal is urgently hiring an FP&A Analyst / Industrial Cost Accountant to join our Planning & Economics department. The previous analyst has transitioned to a new role, leaving a critical gap in our cost accounting and budgeting operations. We need someone who can immediately step in, take ownership of our manufacturing variances, and deliver crisp, actionable financial insights to the plant director.
Your daily mission will involve:
1] Building and maintaining complex business plans and ROI models for new production lines and capital equipment investments.
2] Calculating the true Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) by breaking down direct materials, machine hours, labor, and overhead allocations, and updating our BOM (Bill of Materials) cost cards.
3] Conducting rigorous month-end variance analysis, comparing actual shop floor spend against the standard budget, and identifying the root causes of material or labor inefficiencies.
4] Consolidating financial data from the factory floor, procurement, and HR to present comprehensive monthly management reports to the executive team.
5] Driving the annual budgeting process, working directly with department heads to set realistic financial targets and track their execution.
We are looking for a candidate with a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Industrial Engineering, and at least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing FP&A or cost accounting role. You must be an advanced Excel user, highly comfortable with ERP systems, and possess the physical willingness to walk the factory floor to verify actual production metrics. The first week of every month will be intense, requiring you to thrive under tight reporting deadlines.
