We are seeking a proofreader with impeccable linguistic standards to ensure every publication meets the highest academic and typographic benchmarks.
📝 **Core Responsibilities:**
1. Complete proofreading of textbook and monograph galleys at multiple production stages.
2. Correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and technical errors in English-language academic texts.
3. Eliminate typesetting defects: verify word breaks, paragraph alignment, double spaces, widows/orphans, and single-letter conjunctions at line ends.
4. Cross-check corrected proofs against author manuscripts post-typesetting, verifying figure captions, table data, and cross-references.
5. Validate bibliographic entries, citation formats, table of contents, page numbering, and index accuracy per academic style guides (APA, Chicago, Harvard).
🎓 **What We Are Looking For:**
1. Degree in English Language, Linguistics, Publishing, or Journalism.
2. 3+ years of proofreading experience in book or journal publishing (academic/educational focus preferred).
3. Flawless command of English grammar, spelling, and academic style conventions.
4. Exceptional concentration, patience, and the ability to work with dense, large-volume texts.
5. Proficiency with electronic proofing tools (Adobe Acrobat annotation, track changes) and PDF markup.
