Our newly renovated, multi-disciplinary cultural center in downtown Toronto is looking for a visionary Artistic Director to shape our creative strategy and lead our diverse arts programming. We are a hub for contemporary performance, film, and visual arts, and we need a leader who can bridge the gap between avant-garde art and community engagement.
* Your Core Mandate *
You will be responsible for defining the long-term artistic vision of the center. This means curating a compelling annual repertoire that balances local emerging talent with international headliners. You will scout and incubate new cultural projects, from experimental film screenings and interactive art installations to large-scale urban festivals and touring theater productions. A significant part of your role involves managing our in-house creative team—overseeing technicians, set designers, and scriptwriters—while forging strategic partnerships with global arts councils, independent galleries, and corporate sponsors.
* The Ideal Candidate *
We are seeking a seasoned professional with a degree in Arts Administration, Fine Arts, or Cultural Management, backed by at least five years of leadership experience in the cultural or entertainment sector. You must possess outstanding presentation and negotiation skills, capable of pitching our vision to both city officials and private donors. A deep, nuanced understanding of the global contemporary art context, combined with strong project management methodologies, is essential. You are a natural leader who inspires creative teams and isn't afraid to take calculated artistic risks.
* Compensation & Environment *
The starting salary is $85,000 CAD annually, with a clear pathway for growth based on the successful execution of our seasonal festivals. This is a full-time, on-site role based at our flagship venue in Toronto's Entertainment District. You will have access to state-of-the-art performance spaces and exhibition halls, providing a massive canvas for your ideas. Additionally, you will receive a travel budget to attend international arts markets and festivals, expanding our global network.
