An independent film studio and experimental theater collective located in the Arts District of Los Angeles is hiring a meticulous and proactive 2nd Assistant Director / Theatrical Stage Manager. We operate at the intersection of indie cinema and avant-garde stage performance, and we need a right-hand person to the Director who can keep the chaotic creative process running like clockwork.
+ The Day-to-Day Reality +
You will be the central nervous system on both the soundstage and the rehearsal floor. Your core duty is to break down the script and generate the daily call sheets, ensuring every actor, crew member, and piece of equipment is exactly where they need to be. During rehearsals or shoots, you will be responsible for locking the set, managing the background extras, and keeping the Director's vision on track. You will maintain the script supervisor's notes, tracking continuity, camera setups, and take numbers, and at the end of a grueling 12-hour day, you will compile the daily production reports for the executive producers.
+ Who Thrives in This Role +
We are looking for someone who understands the unique rhythms of both film production and live theater. While a degree in Film, Television, or Performing Arts is preferred, we value raw, on-set experience and a relentless work ethic above all. You must possess an ironclad memory for details, from an actor's specific prop placement to the exact timing of a lighting cue. Stress management is crucial; when a lead actor is late or a set piece breaks, you are the one who calmly finds a workaround without disrupting the creative flow. You must be a master communicator, capable of diplomatically navigating the egos and needs of the hair, makeup, wardrobe, and grip departments.
+ What We Provide +
The compensation starts at $65,000 USD annually, with overtime pay guaranteed for any hours exceeding the standard 12-hour on-set days. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Los Angeles, though you will frequently be deployed to various location shoots across Southern California or touring our theater productions. You will gain invaluable, hands-on experience working alongside seasoned industry veterans, with a clear pathway to stepping up into a 1st AD or Production Manager role on future projects.
