Opis

An advanced R&D defense contractor in San Diego is seeking a Payload Systems Integration Engineer to design and integrate complex mission payloads for our unmanned aerial platforms. You will be the bridge between the airframe team and the sensor operators, ensuring that our drones can see, record, and deliver with pinpoint accuracy.

Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Designing and integrating 3-axis gimbal stabilization systems for high-resolution EO/IR cameras, thermal imaging modules, and multispectral sensors.
- Developing mechanical interfaces for precision airdrop mechanisms and cargo release systems, ensuring reliable deployment under various flight profiles.
- 3D modeling of mechanical assemblies, housings, and custom mounting brackets using SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor.
- Selecting and integrating micro-servos, stepper motors, and position feedback sensors to achieve sub-degree pointing accuracy.
- Collaborating with the firmware team to define control protocols (CAN, UART, PWM) between the payload and the flight controller.

We expect you to bring:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, specifically with gimbal systems or precision opto-mechanical assemblies.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including FEA for stress analysis on lightweight composite mounts.
- Practical experience with 3D printing (FDM/SLA) for rapid prototyping and iterative testing.
- A solid understanding of basic electronics and signal routing to prevent EMI in high-vibration environments.

We offer a competitive salary of $95,000 USD per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and a 401(k) match. This is a full-time, on-site position at our secure engineering lab in San Diego, where you will have direct access to our vibration tables, environmental chambers, and flight test cages.
