A leading aerospace R&D firm based in Toulouse is expanding its unmanned systems division and seeking a meticulous UAV Airframe Layout Engineer. In this role, you will be the architect of our internal drone architecture, ensuring that every gram is accounted for and every component is securely housed within the fuselage.
Your daily engineering challenges will include:
1. Performing detailed 3D spatial layout and packaging of internal volumes for fixed-wing UAVs, ensuring optimal aerodynamic profiles are maintained.
2. Calculating and adjusting the Center of Gravity (CG) by strategically distributing the mass of batteries, avionics, and payload sensors to guarantee stable flight characteristics.
3. Designing robust mechanical mounts, shock-absorbing bays, and custom brackets for LiPo batteries, brushless motors, and autopilot units using SolidWorks sheet metal and assembly modules.
4. Generating comprehensive 3D assembly instructions and manufacturing drawings for the production floor.
5. Conducting first-article inspections on the assembly line to verify that fabricated composite shells and internal brackets perfectly match the 3D CAD models.
We expect you to bring:
1. Professional mastery of SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor, specifically in handling complex multi-body assemblies and sheet metal environments.
2. A deep understanding of aviation structural principles, with at least 2 years of experience designing parts for plastics, carbon fiber, and thin-gauge aluminum.
3. Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies, including FDM/SLA 3D printing and laser cutting.
4. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
We offer a competitive gross annual salary of €62,000, along with a comprehensive French social benefits package. This is a full-time, on-site position at our Toulouse design and assembly facility, where you will have direct access to our in-house prototyping lab and flight test hangar.
