A high-tech drone production lab in Austin, Texas, is hiring a UAV Propulsion Systems & Motor Balancing Technician to assemble, tune, and validate the powerplants of our multirotor and fixed-wing aircraft. In the drone world, a poorly balanced propeller or a misconfigured ESC will induce vibrations that blind the flight controller and destroy the airframe. We need a specialist who can extract maximum efficiency and zero vibration from our motor setups.
~ Mounting brushless outrunner motors to carbon fiber stators, soldering high-current power leads, and securing connections with high-temp sleeving and threadlocker.
~ Running comprehensive thrust and efficiency tests on motor/propeller combinations using calibrated thrust stands to determine the optimal setup for specific payload and endurance requirements.
~ Performing high-precision static and dynamic balancing of carbon fiber and composite propellers using magnetic balancers and vibration analysis software.
~ Configuring and flashing Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs) using BLHeli Suite, AM32, or Betaflight, tuning PWM frequencies, and setting motor timing for maximum smoothness.
~ Diagnosing and eliminating electromagnetic interference (EMI) and physical vibrations that could degrade IMU sensor readings or analog video feeds.
You must have at least 1 year of hands-on experience building and tuning FPV or commercial drones, with a deep understanding of electrical theory, soldering, and ESC protocols. Familiarity with thrust testing equipment and vibration analysis is highly preferred.
We offer a salary of $55,000 USD per year, plus performance bonuses based on production yield. This is a full-time, on-site role at our Austin assembly and testing facility. We provide all thrust stands, balancers, soldering equipment, and a massive inventory of motors and props.
