A major defense manufacturing plant in Windsor, Ontario, is looking for a highly skilled Tool & Die Maker to fabricate the custom jigs, fixtures, and molds that keep our production lines running. While our CNC operators make the parts, you make the tools that make the parts possible. This is a role for a true craftsman who understands that a thousandth of an inch is the difference between a perfect fit and a scrapped assembly.
# Machining complex, high-precision tooling components, composite layup molds, and assembly jigs from tool steel, aluminum, and engineering plastics using manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
# Interpreting intricate tooling drawings, calculating exact offsets, and holding ultra-tight tolerances (down to 0.0002 inches) on critical mating surfaces and guide pins.
# Performing meticulous hand-fitting, lapping, and polishing of mold cavities and fixture interfaces to ensure flawless part release and zero mechanical backlash.
# Independently grinding and sharpening your own HSS and carbide cutting tools to achieve the exact geometries required for difficult-to-machine alloys.
# Collaborating with the design engineering team to suggest Design for Manufacturability (DFM) improvements that will reduce cycle times and extend tool life.
You must have at least 3 years of experience as a tool and die maker or precision machinist, with a formal apprenticeship or trade diploma. A deep understanding of GD&T, metallurgy, and manual machining is mandatory. We offer $68,000 CAD per year, with excellent union benefits. This is a full-time, on-site position in our dedicated, climate-controlled tool room in Windsor.
