While CNC machines handle the high-volume production runs, there will always be a critical need for a skilled manual machinist who can look at a complex blueprint, grab a piece of bar stock, and make a one-off prototype or custom fixture perfectly. That is where I come in.
• Operating manual lathes (Myford, Herbert) and universal milling machines to fabricate complex housings, adapters, and flanges.
• Working with a diverse range of materials, including 35XGSA alloy steels, stainless grades, duralumin, PTFE (Teflon), and PEEK.
• Independently grinding and sharpening HSS lathe tools, end mills, and drills to achieve the exact cutting geometries required for tough alloys.
• Performing precision measurements using micrometers, dial indicators, and thread gauges to hold IT7-IT8 tolerances.
From 2017 to 2022, I worked in the experimental R&D department of an instrumentation plant. My daily tasks involved machining prototype antenna housings and custom cooling heat sinks for mobile EW systems. I also designed and built a set of specialized centering fixtures for thin-walled aluminum UAV tubes, which drastically reduced setup times. Over my tenure, I successfully completed over 80 complex, low-volume drawings with a zero-scrap record.
I hold a vocational diploma in Mechanical Engineering and possess a deep respect for machine tool maintenance. I am seeking a stable, full-time role in a well-equipped machine shop in Sheffield, UK, with a target salary of £42,000 GBP.
