In modern UAV production, 3D printing is not just for prototyping; it is a critical manufacturing process for end-use flight components. I am an Additive Manufacturing Technician who specializes in turning digital CAD models into high-strength, dimensionally accurate plastic and composite parts.
1] Calibrating, maintaining, and operating a farm of FDM and SLA 3D printers, ensuring optimal bed adhesion, nozzle flow, and resin curing parameters.
2] Preparing models in Cura, PrusaSlicer, and Simplify3D, optimizing support structures, infill patterns, and print orientations for maximum structural integrity.
3] Processing engineering-grade materials, including Carbon Fiber Nylon, Polycarbonate, TPU, and ABS, to print motor mounts, protective shrouds, and antenna brackets.
4] Executing meticulous post-processing: support removal, chemical vapor smoothing, precision sanding, and heat-set insert installation.
Over the last three years, I have been the lead 3D printing specialist for a UAV assembly facility, ensuring the uninterrupted production of over 80 quadcopter bodies per month. A major win in my tenure was proposing a material swap for the drone arm mounts from standard ABS to Carbon Fiber reinforced Nylon.
