Navigating through dense forests or urban ruins without relying on easily jammed GPS signals is a fundamental survival skill for modern infantry. I have spent the last few years teaching military topography, land navigation, and tactical GIS systems to squad leaders and artillery forward observers.
Between 2019 and mid-2022, I served as a navigation instructor at a military training battalion. I taught hundreds of cadets how to read topographic maps, calculate contour intervals, and determine elevation profiles. I conducted extensive field exercises in land navigation, forcing students to move through unfamiliar terrain using only a lensatic compass, a protractor, and pace counts. I also trained them on the use of tactical GIS software and ruggedized tablets (equivalent to the Kroppa/Delta systems), teaching them how to plot fire missions, designate targets, and share real-time situational awareness over encrypted mesh networks.
Since late 2022, I have been developing advanced night-navigation curricula. I teach students how to use night vision devices in conjunction with thermal overlays to navigate complex terrain while avoiding enemy observation. I also created an interactive stress-test for target coordinate designation, which significantly improved the speed and accuracy of our artillery liaison officers.
I hold a Master's degree in Geography and Cartography, alongside a military instructor certification.
