A state-of-the-art recreational complex featuring an expansive aquatic center in San Diego, CA is recruiting an energetic, vigilant, and positive Aquatics Program Assistant. Our facility specializes in water familiarization and swim instruction for infants, toddlers, youth, and adults. We are searching for a reliable team player who thrives in a humid, fast-paced pool environment, prioritizes water safety above all else, and wishes to build a foundation in sports pedagogy or physical rehabilitation. Because this role requires constant physical presence on the pool deck and in the water, it cannot be performed remotely.
- Daily operational duties and safety protocols:
- Assisting the Head Swim Instructor during group and private lessons, demonstrating proper stroke mechanics and providing in-water physical support for beginners;
- Preparing, organizing, and inspecting all specialized aquatic gear before classes (kickboards, pull buoys, pool noodles, flotation belts, and sensory toys);
- Maintaining unbroken visual surveillance of the pool deck and water, strictly enforcing facility rules to prevent accidents;
- Standing guard during open swim and class transitions, ready to execute emergency action plans and administer CPR/AED or First Aid if required;
- Helping young children in the locker rooms with swim caps and goggles, and safely guiding them out of the water at the end of their sessions.
- Prerequisites for joining our aquatics team:
- Currently enrolled in or holding a degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sports Pedagogy, or a related field;
- Exceptional personal swimming ability, with a strong command of all competitive strokes and deep-water endurance;
- A genuine affinity for working with children, boundless patience, and the psychological tools to help toddlers overcome aquaphobia;
- Foundational knowledge of human anatomy, biomechanics, and current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certifications;
- Possession of a valid lifeguard certification or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) credential is a major plus.
- Compensation and facility perks:
- An annualized salary equivalent of $42,000 USD, distributed via dependable bi-weekly direct deposits;
- A flexible, on-site shift schedule tailored around the complex's peak aquatic hours, working directly on the pool deck in San Diego;
- Comprehensive W-2 employment, including paid sick time, workers' compensation, and holiday pay;
- Unlimited complimentary access to our Olympic-sized pools, resistance training zones, and dry-land gyms to maintain your own athletic conditioning;
- A clear, sponsored pathway to becoming a Lead Swim Instructor or Aquatics Director.
