A prominent general contractor specializing in high-rise residential and commercial towers in Chicago is hiring a Concrete & Formwork Superintendent. We build using advanced jump-form and table-form systems, and we need a leader who understands the intricacies of reinforced concrete construction from the mud slab to the roof deck.
You will be managing the concrete cycle, coordinating the carpentry crews building the forms, the ironworkers tying the rebar, and the concrete subcontractors pouring the mix. Your expertise will ensure that the structure is built safely, plumb, and within the tight tolerances required for high-rise construction. You will be on the deck every day, solving problems, checking the work, and driving the schedule.
▶ Overseeing the daily operations of the formwork, rebar, and concrete crews, ensuring they have the materials and information needed to perform.
▶ Inspecting the erection of shoring, formwork, and falsework to ensure it is built exactly according to the engineered shoring drawings.
▶ Checking rebar placement, lap splices, and embeds against the structural drawings before signing off on pre-pour inspections.
▶ Managing the concrete pour logistics, including coordinating pump placements, monitoring the slump and temperature of the concrete, and ensuring proper vibration and curing.
▶ Conducting post-pour inspections, managing the stripping of forms, and coordinating the remediation of any honeycombing or surface defects.
The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in concrete construction, with a strong background in high-rise or heavy civil projects. You must be able to read complex structural and shoring drawings and have a deep understanding of ACI codes and concrete mix designs. Physical stamina, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to make quick, decisive decisions on the fly are critical.
We offer a salary of $95,000 USD per year, plus overtime and project completion bonuses. You will receive full health benefits, a 401(k) match, and a company vehicle allowance. All necessary field technology, including tablets and layout tools, will be provided. This is a strictly on-site position at our active high-rise projects in downtown Chicago.
