🔧 **Fleet Dispatcher / DOT Vehicle Inspector**
🏢 **About Us:** A major trucking and logistics enterprise in Chicago, IL, is hiring a Fleet Dispatcher & Safety Inspector. We operate a private fleet of 40+ heavy trucks (Class 8). Your mission is to ensure that no truck leaves our yard unless it is 100% mechanically sound and the driver is fully compliant with DOT regulations.
📋 **Core Responsibilities:**
• Pre-Trip Inspections: Conduct rigorous physical inspections of engines, brakes, tires, lights, and hydraulics alongside drivers.
• Compliance Checks: Verify driver credentials (CDL, Med Card), logbooks (ELD), and perform mandatory breathalyzer/health checks.
• Dispatching: Issue trip envelopes, route sheets, and BOLs; release compliant vehicles for service.
• Yard Management: Log returning vehicles, record mileage, fuel usage, and any newly discovered defects.
• Maintenance Coordination: Immediately ground defective trucks and work with the shop mechanics to prioritize repairs.
🎓 **Requirements:**
• Technical degree or 2+ years of experience as a heavy-duty mechanic, fleet manager, or DOT inspector.
• Deep knowledge of commercial vehicle anatomy and FMCSA/DOT safety regulations.
• Uncompromising attention to detail and the authority to ground unsafe vehicles.
• Willingness to work early morning shifts (starting between 6 AM - 8 AM).
