Description
Professional exterior insulation contractor for private homes, cottages, and outbuildings in Portland and surrounding areas. Over 100 completed projects of varying complexity—from small single-story cottages to 2-3 story homes with bay windows and complex wall geometry requiring custom insulation cutting.
I work with standard and extruded polystyrene (EPS/XPS) for typical wall insulation, as well as basalt mineral wool for projects with enhanced fire safety requirements—wooden homes, buildings near gas equipment or chimneys. For the protective layer over insulation, I use reinforcing fiberglass mesh, adhesive and plaster mixes designed for exterior applications, and decorative finishes (stucco or textured coatings) with subsequent exterior painting.
Before starting work, I always visit the site personally to inspect wall condition, determine substrate type—brick, concrete block, wood, or old plaster layer requiring removal—and measure facade area. Based on the inspection, I recommend insulation thickness, typically 2-6 inches depending on climate conditions and desired heating savings, and provide estimated material and labor costs before signing agreements.
Insulation is installed with adhesive mixture plus mechanical fasteners (plate anchors), with fastener quantity calculated separately for corner and central wall sections where wind load is higher. Before applying the reinforcing layer, I check surface flatness with a straightedge and always overlap mesh at insulation joints to prevent cracking at connection points after drying.
Work is performed in warm weather with stable positive temperatures, as adhesive and plaster mixes require proper drying conditions. During rainy weather, I cover the facade with protective film. On-site, I work carefully, protecting windows, roofing, and the area around the house from mortar contamination, with scaffolding installed following safety protocols.
Pricing is customized for each project based on area, insulation thickness, and facade architectural complexity. Rush orders or hard-to-reach locations include a surcharge. All work carries a 2-year warranty—if cracks or insulation delamination occur due to my workmanship, I fix the defect at my own expense.
